The economic future for this country is heavily invested in innovation and technology. The government has developed policies that are propelling this country towards a high-tech knowledge economy. Mâori, as a collective, need to be part of this future because it holds a promise for socio-economic uplift. In order to understand what is needed from a resource management perspective, Mâori must first examine what it is they have in terms of human, social, and technological capital. They then need to define where it is they wish to go, and then devise strategies for achieving that future. This paper is about defining and exploring Mâori technological capacity, examining how it relates to Mâori people, and considering how they can increase their share of the economic benefits.
